What It Means to Shift Purpose

When we founded Shifting Purpose Consulting, we didn’t just want a name that sounded good—we wanted one that meant something. For us, “shifting purpose” reflects a fundamental truth we’ve both lived: purpose isn’t fixed. It’s fluid. It grows, evolves, and adapts—just like we do.

As women, mothers, professionals, and entrepreneurs, we’ve each gone through seasons of change. There were times when our purpose was rooted in parenting and caregiving. Other times, it was in advocacy, leadership, or deep personal growth. Through all of it, we’ve learned to embrace the idea that our purpose can—and should—shift over time. And not only is that okay, it’s powerful.
We believe the same is true for organizations. Businesses and institutions are made up of people, and just like people, they are living, breathing entities. Purpose can shift as the needs of your community change, as the landscape around you evolves, and as your own internal growth reveals new priorities. The key is staying connected to your “why,” even as the “how” and “what” may change.
At Shifting Purpose Consulting, we support leaders and organizations in navigating these transitions. We help you revisit your mission, realign your goals, and reimagine your impact. We help you see change not as disruption, but as a necessary evolution.
Holding tightly to an outdated purpose can lead to stagnation, disconnection, and burnout. But embracing a shifting purpose? That’s where innovation lives. That’s where healing happens. That’s where alignment and authenticity thrive.
We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions—because people and organizations are far too dynamic for that. What we believe in is movement, growth, and honoring the complexity of your journey.
Shifting purpose isn’t about losing your way—it’s about finding a new one, over and over again, with intention.
Until next time.
Keep shifting towards your purpose,
Erin & Sydney
